Description
TThe power of the volcano trapped in a sterling silver necklace. Glistening green peridot is a volcanic gem formed in the deep fires of the earth; on Hawaii, it is treasured as the tears of Pele – the goddess of the volcano. This sterling silver necklace started as an experiment. I first fired a raw peridot gemstone I got from Hawaii in the kiln to see what the fire (like a volcano) would do to the stone. The result was a darkening of the green and an added fire to the stone – a deep red when held to the light – like hot magma. I decided to add it to a sterling silver pendant and add a botanical design reminiscent of the grass used in thatch on the island.
